THE SOVEREIGN DROP 033 — On Father’s Day
Not a newsletter, but a ritual. One drop each week. Distilled wisdom for the whole man.
Field Note: On Father’s Day
Some of you are fathers of young kids.
Some of you are fathers of grown kids.
Some of you are fathers of grown kids which means you’ve now got grandkids.
Some of you aren’t fathers and one day hope to be.
Some of you aren’t fathers and want to keep it that way.
Some of you were raised by a good man.
Some of you were raised by a not-so-good man.
Some of your dads abandoned you.
Some of you lost your dad to death already.
Some of you still have your dad.
Every line on that list is a different shape of the same ache — to be fathered, to father well, to know what kind of man you're becoming because of (or in spite of) the man who raised you.
The good dad's kid still has work to do.
The absent dad's kid isn't doomed.
The dead dad's kid isn't bound.
Remember — the line you’re born into describes your starting point, not your ceiling.
Question
If your kids grow up to be exactly the man you are right now — is that a relief, or a warning?
Integration
Pick the one trait you swore you'd never inherit. Is it already there?
Benediction
May your children only ever know the man you chose to become.
I believe in what you are becoming.
